The first bottle I chose was from Francis Ford Coppola’s Diamond Collection. I chose this because I love a good Shiraz, as well as a Coppola wine. It’s reasonably priced at about $13 a bottle. It makes a great house warming or dinner gift.
The wine is a flavorful Syrah mixed with a Petit Sirah. The first thing I noticed about this wine was it’s dark garnet color. It has a such a beautiful red hue as it’s swirled in the glass. The overwhelming aroma is an array of berries. The taste is clean, mildly sweet with just a hint of a vanilla finish. It’s a nice gentle wine, with a very soft finish. Makes for easy drinking, which can be a bad thing, if you don’t have other people to share it with.
I enjoyed this dinner with a beautiful spinach salad, made with both strawberries and strips of steak. I know this may sound like an odd pairing, but it’s one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Plus I love any dinner you can serve in just one bowl. The berries mixed in the salad plus the steak provide a perfect compliment to this velvety wine.
If you’re looking for a magnificent wine with a subtle aroma, this Coppola Syrah-Shiraz Green Label wine is a sure thing.
